Guidelines for "DON ROBBIE ROBERTSON" Scholarship fund
General Information
Several years ago, Word of Life Fellowship, Inc. established a Needy Camper Scholarship Fund in memory of Donald A. Robertson. For many years "Robbie", as he was fondly known, was the Word of Life Island Youth Camp Program Director. He was a tremendous man of God with a great love for young people, and God used his contagious personality and vibrant testimony to point many to Jesus Christ. Since Word of Life established the Needy Camper Scholarship fund, literally thousands of young people have been helped.
Objective
The fund was founded to financially assist young people who desire to attend Word of Life Camps but are not able to because of lack of funds. The fund is targeted to those who have an individual request, but is not limited to one per family.
Application Process
An application and scholarship guidelines are sent upon request. The sponsor (i.e. parent, friend, youth leader, pastor, etc.) is asked to review the scholarship guidelines to determine whether the young person is eligible. If the young person is eligible, the application should be submitted to the Word of Life Needy Camper Scholarship committee. The Needy Camper Scholarship Committee then meets in early May to consider the requests received.
Applications received after May 15th may be approved, as funds are available. After the applications are reviewed, the sponsor is notified by letter and phone of the decision. If accepted, a camp registration form will be sent to be completed and returned to the Camp Registrar with the non-refundable $75 registration fee.
Eligibility for Scholarship
- Evidence of lack of funds, please include an explanation. Parent or guardian should also attach a copy of their most recent tax return.
- Applicant Age: Youth Camp Age
Types of Scholarship
The Needy Camper Scholarship Committee bases its decision to grant a partial or a full scholarship based on the need. Other factors may be involved; therefore, each request is considered individually.
- Full Scholarship: The non-refundable $75 registration fee is the responsibility of the camper. The balance of the camp fee is paid by Word of Life.
- Partial Scholarship: The non-refundable $75 registration fee is the responsibility of the camper. Word of Life pays 50% of the balance of the camp fee and the camper is responsible for the other 50%.
Please Note:
- Needy Camper Scholarship is issued for one week of camp per person. This does not include $75.00 of the registration fee.
- Scholarships awarded may be applied towards any week of camp, excluding the two weeks of Teens Involved unless the applicant is a TI participant. The Needy Camp Scholarship does not cover the TI fee.
- The Needy Camper Scholarship Fund will be awarded to one individual for a maximum of two consecutive years. Those who have received the scholarship for two years and would still like to apply would be reviewed for scholarship only on an "as funds are available status." This is enforced to be fair and to afford as many campers as possible the opportunity to go to camp.
- The Needy Camper Scholarship Fund cannot be used with any other discounts offered.
- Completion and submission of the Needy Camper Scholarship application does not guarantee approval or a camp reservation. Do not send money or a camp registration form with this application.
- Word of Life Fellowship, Inc. reserves the right to forfeit a scholarship for the following reasons:
***Misrepresentation - A sponsor who intentionally misrepresents conditions or circumstances claiming a financial or spiritual need, and Word of Life becomes aware that a need does not, in fact, exist.
***No response - A sponsor is required to return the registration form within 21 days of being notified that they were granted a scholarship. - Donations to the Needy Camper Scholarship Fund can be made to: Word of Life Fellowship, Inc., P.O. Box 600, Schroon Lake, NY 12870. A tax-deductible receipt will be issued.
